Jeremy and Jodie Toews are thrilled to be part of the Mission Aviation Fellowship team in Kalimantan, Indonesia, serving remote communities on the island of Borneo. As a pilot and aircraft mechanic, Jeremy has a passion to see isolated people transformed by the love of Christ as he uses the aircraft to support national pastors and missionaries, deliver vital supplies to remote villages, and provide life-saving medical evacuation flights. Jodie finds fulfillment in the daily challenges of cultivating a welcoming home in a remote corner of a developing country while caring for their children Connor, Joel, Ryan, and Audrey. As she has opportunity, she also is excited to nurture friendships with other local mothers, as well as meet hospitality needs as they arise.
Born in Greeley, Colorado, Jeremy was raised in a Christian home by parents who were passionate about missions, and he came to Christ at a young age through their witness and example. At the age of 10, he and his family moved to the Hopi Reservation in Arizona where his parents began serving as missionaries.
Jeremy shares, "Growing up in a very remote, cross-cultural environment instilled in me a passion for seeing lives transformed by Christ in the far corners of the world. That passion, combined with inspiration from the life of Nate Saint (MAF pilot), is what God used to direct me to Moody Bible Institute in Spokane, Washington." In 2009, he graduated with a degree in Missionary Aviation Technology along with aircraft mechanic and pilot certifications. He went on to work as a flight instructor and mechanic at Spokane Turbine Center, a non-profit organization, training missionary pilots and mechanics from around the world.
Jodie was born and raised in Tualatin, Oregon, in a Christian home. Seeing her parents live out their faith in their home, at church, and in the community greatly impacted Jodie's decision to follow Christ. While growing up, she was drawn to missions through the influence of numerous missionary biographies and in high school she took the opportunity to go on two short-term mission trips. In 2006, Jodie graduated from Western Oregon University with a degree in ASL/English Interpreting and earned her national certification through the National Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf. She interpreted for local school districts, a video relay interpreting company, and her home church. After college, she went on a short-term mission trip to Burkina Faso, West Africa, and began praying about pursuing full-time mission work.
Jodie shares, "I didn't receive a clear answer until a few years later when I was introduced to a nice pilot/mechanic named Jeremy who was preparing to serve in missions with MAF."
Their shared passion for seeing the Good News of Jesus Christ being proclaimed in every nation, tribe, and language sparked a mutual attraction and they were married less than a year later. They thank God for this opportunity to serve with MAF in Indonesia, seeing isolated people physically and spiritually transformed by the love of Christ.
God calls the men and women of MAF to serve Him in unique ways. He may also be calling you to a special role in Jeremy and Jodie's ministry. Please prayerfully consider becoming a ministry partner with them through prayer and/or financial support.
